I want to grow a tiny giant. A reminder of one of my most favorite places.

Food Face.

I am incredibly tempted to put this on our wedding registry.

"If your wrists hurt in the morning then you were doing it right."

I was doing it right. Last night I threw pottery on the wheel for the first time since high school and it was completely wonderful. The 5 week course was something I had been wanting to do for a while and so my family gave it to me as a gift for my birthday. The smell of the clay reminded me of working in the Schreckengost studio several summers ago and it put me so at ease. Never before have I been able to throw something on the wheel and have it centered, and stay centered, but last night I did. It felt great to be immersed in creating something that had nothing to do with greeting cards, or a freelance job...it was all me. All for my own enjoyment. At first the wheel I had chosen was broken. The class was full so I had no other option but to sit and wait for repairs to be made. But in the meantime, I had an older woman giving me tips on handbuilding with clay and I made two small birds. When the wheel was up and running again I made two pots that I'm very proud of. I can't wait to fire and glaze everything. I can't wait for the next class.

Planning.

My new favorite book.

2.21.2009

Apparently we're six months behind schedule.

Everything is very overwhelming. But it's a good overwhelming. I have too much going on and need to write a lot of notes to myself to remember things...that is, if I remember to write the notes in the first place.

A creative update.

I just found out that one of my designs with Three Bears has been featured on Design for Mankind. Click the following link to be re-located to the article. (http://www.designformankind.com/2009/02/three-bears-design/)

And while I'm on the topic of Three Bears, we recently had an overhaul on our website and have added a numerous amount of new goodies including wallpapers for your desktop!

And last but not least, I just finished up this shirt design for the band Or So It Goes which features a pod of narwhals. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed working on this.

I couldn't count all the reasons why.

My future husband organizes his t-shirts by color. This makes me love him even more.

Such a fun, but exhausting, trip.

Absolute happiness.

Instead of going out to dinner tonight, or treating yourself to a coffee...

There are thousands of people in Australia without homes due to the recent wildfires. Over 160 people have been killed. Instead of making purchases for yourself this week, donate to the Australian Red Cross to help the people affected by this disaster.

Flight time.

I'm looking forward to my time that will be spent on airplanes this week even though I really don't like flying. I want to finish iWoz and perhaps start another book. I've been so busy with freelance work in my evenings and on weekends that I haven't had much time for reading. And of course, all of that is beside the fact that I will be flying to see my love who looks strikingly similar to Steve Jobs (left) in this photo.

A whale of a tale.

A friend at work sent me this picture and the following exchange of e-mails commenced:

Kelle: Reminded me of you. Whale cuteness!
Me: Aww, love him.
Kelle: I want to hang out with him. And tell him jokes.
Me: And when he laughs, water will spout out of his top.
Kelle: And then he'd get all embarassed and blush. So then we'd have to give him a hug. And he would giggle. But then accidentally let a stinker. And then it's back to him being embarassed and blushing. But the most important part of the story would be when he said that I was funnier than G buu (co-worker).
Me: Then he would blow a raspberry.

(I have no idea where this whale is from but I'd like to thank the creator of it for making the lovely moment in my day possible.)

"...So I look to my Eskimo friend..."

A little sketchbook therapy last night after finishing a poster design.

Dear Animal Collective,

I was thinking about you on my way to work this morning. I was remembering how 3 years ago I had to go all the way to Michigan to see you play. The following day I went all the way down to Kentucky to see Of Monteal play which made for a great weekend of music, but that's beside the point. The point is, I don't believe you've ever played in Cleveland, at least not since I've been listening to you, and this is greatly disappointing to me. Student loans and a '91 Volvo consume all of my money and I can't afford to drive anywhere to see you. Heck, I can't even afford to see Andrew Bird and he's actually playing a show in Cleveland. However, I noticed that you're playing three shows in Florida. I think that's ridiculous. Florida may be a large state, but they don't need three shows. Please trade one of those shows for Cleveland. It's not cold here in June. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Andrey

All work and no play...

Typically I end up hand lettering almost any type of design work I do. I blame it on my inability to pair up fonts with my illustrations. This results in lots and lots of re-writing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and all work and no play makes Cheryl a dull girl.

At least I had a great new Andrew Bird concert to listen to compliments of NPR.

Food for thought.

As I was returing to work.

This is probably as close to an arctic tundra that I've ever experienced.

Treehouse studio.

This just made my need/desire to have a studio space much stronger. Sigh.

(Although, I have to say that I'm terribly sick of all of this kitschy moustache nonsense. Ugh. Stop already.)

Snow goggles.

A search inspired by a recent post at even*cleveland. These goggles seem so eerie to me. I'm very inspired to do some drawings of them. So appropriate for this Cleveland cold. Maybe this weekend I'll rent Nanook of the North.

2.02.2009

Cleveland weather is such a tease.

The magic that comes along with the first few snowfalls of winter has faded. Now all I can see is the dirty slushy mess on the ground and mounded in parking lots. I'm so ready for spring.

Best cake ever?

Quite possibly.

Found on one of my current favorite blogs, Cake Wrecks. This is one of those things that actually makes me look forward to having children someday.

My desk.

It was once used by both my dad and my aunt. It's almost too small for me to do any drawing work on it. Although, my clutter contributes to that as well. I feel like I will never want to give it away, even if it is sort of impractical for me to work on.
